Our Most Embarrassing RV Moment, So Far Posted on Sunday, February 04 @ 00:00:00 EST

Dalton, GA home of Carpet warehouses, nice homes and friendly Police Officers, but watch how you enter a service station for gasoline.
After hours of heavy traffic we needed fuel. Unless you know the area and the ease of entrance and exits to fuel stops, be cautious when entering with a 35 ft. motor home, tow dolly and Mini Van. We weren’t!
As soon as the commitment was made to cross two lanes of traffic in the above mentioned rig I knew the mistake had been made. The front end of our motor home was in the entrance to the station but the rear end did not make it. Oh nooo!!! The hitch bar was on the asphalt and the rear tires were not! The wife and Poodle dog looked at me and asked "what are you going to do now?" Well, as you know you cannot back up a rig like this even if your wheels are on the ground. So you embarrassingly dismount and unhook your tow dolly and Van. By now the police have arrived and are directing Thanksgiving holiday traffic, and like the wife and Poodle dog, looked at me and said "what are you going to do now?"
Fortunately we had another couple (daughter and son-in-law) traveling with us in their motor home and didn’t make the same mistake I did. So help was there! (Thank heaven for sons-in-law.) More Police arrived.....Oh the embarrassment! After the disconnect we attempted to move the "traffic block" by using the hydraulic levelers on the rear of the motor home, but it seemed, one step forward and two steps back. Wife and Poodle dog were trapped in the Coach because of body twist, the walk door would not open, so they were offering encouraging words but were wondering if we would ever arrive at our destination. More police arrived.
With the help of our daughter and son-in-law we were able to move the coach inches at a time. After about an hour of tying up traffic we were able to back the motor home into the street. By then all the police departments were represented for traffic control. I’m not sure but I think I heard applause from those people we had held up in traffic.
So if any of these folks are reading this, many thanks, and the next time we go through Dalton, GA we will be in disguise.
